From the year 1902 onwards Auer worked with sparkgiving metals. His goal was the development of the spark mechanism of cigarette lighters, gas lighters etc. A mixture of 70% Cer and 30% Iron proved to be an optimal alloy. The use of the Auermetall spread through out the world as flint in the cigarette lighter industry, and in the treibacher works many lighters were produced. At the same time, through the decades, a collection of lighters was built up that has stayed intact until today and has found a permanent home as an exhibit in the Auer-von-Welsbach Museum.

The collection comprises approximately 700 lighters, of which approx. 50 are unique. Click on the small illustrations to get an enlargement. (approx. 40/50 KB pro illustration).
