The museum thanks itīs existence, through two object targets.

Firstly, many citizens of Althofen, at the top, the "mentor of the museum", Mr. Roland Adunka, felt a need to give merit and tribute to a great reseacher, scientist, inventor, industrialist, and philanthropist Dr. Carl Auer von Welsbach, who spent many successful years working here.

Secondly, it lay in the interest of the historic part of the city of Althofen to give the largely restored and renovated medieval city a suitable attraction.

The museum, situated between the gothic church and the castle "Frohnfeste" gives itīs visitors a comprehensive survey of the extensive works of a famous and important inventor, discoverer and scientist, who was acclaimed and counted from experts worldwide as being a pioneer in his many fields of science.
